JD RODEO CUSTOM
So what do we have hear?.. I posted this little gem a few months ago and am still getting requests for more information about this
great little custom guitar…
First, I must divulge that I have owned a few Rickenbacker 330’s in the past and am a huge Fan of these classic instruments…. but to continue, I set out to create a Rickenbacker influenced Guitar that solved what I saw to be major draw-backs in the original and to drag this classic guitar into modern times… The way this guitar turned out is really why I do this type of thing… as with all of my custom guitars, they start with an idea for something I would like to play… and if I can’t find it.. I just go out and build it!
This guitar is one of the best I have had the pleasure to build…. Although, It was a process as the body and neck weren’t finalized until I had gone through two complete prototypes ..In the end it went from a CNC machined body to a hand carved body… I certainly had some help with the final body and it is heavily chambered and has a hand carved top. In section the body has an arched top with a flat back and a radius edge (see photos below) it is both ergonomic and very light weight. The neck is a Warmouth custom ordered neck with a ’59 Round-Back profile, 10 Inch Radius, Ebony Finger Board, a Bone Nut and Shark Fin Pearl Fret Markers.
The Bridge is an L.R. Baggs (That alone is a a major advance on the original) with a Piezo Pickup along with the Control X set-up (set up with a blend knob). For the other Pickups I spoke to Lindy Fralin and following his suggestion I had him wind me a set of one off, prototype Mini Humbuckers… I cannot say enough about these pups!.. He wound them specifically so they can both “Ring like Bell” and “Scream and Sqawk” when needed… This guitar can handle any sitiuation you find yourself in… be it rehersal, recording or just jamming.
I want to give credit where credit is due.. so I send a special thanks out to Kevin at One Eyed Jack Guitars and Tom for his early CNC work… and of coarse… Scotty at the “Guitar Tone Shop” for his awsome finish….
Simply put … This Guitar is…. EXCEPTIONAL!!!!
I will end it here, but before I go… I ‘ve added many photos including some construction photos … so take a look and enjoy…
